Position Overview
Reporting to the Program Manager, the ideal Program Advisor is an energetic individual with a passion for supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The position is responsible for working closely with our chapter and community leadership to manage our volunteer base and provide a high-quality experience. You will use your relationship building skills to support Best Buddies Canada chapters, grow nationally and establish an inclusive environment. The position is remote for candidates who reside in British Columbia.
The Program Advisor’s primary role is to provide support, resources, and serve as the point of contact for program participants. The Program Manager is responsible for regular communication with our volunteers, and chapter participants, providing key information on our policies, database tools, training tools and up-coming events.
Responsibilities Include but Not Limited To
- Provide direct contact and support for Best Buddies chapters via telephone, email communication and in-person meetings (where possible) – travel in home province and possible travel in other provinces.
- Assist new chapters with start-up, resources and training.
- Contact program participants, chapter leaders, staff advisors to obtain updates and information.
- Assist chapters with problem solving and provide support to students, teachers and host sites.
- Creating and updating manuals and other assets.
- Conducting reference calls for new members.
- Assist with the preparation and execution of presentations about the Best Buddies program to new schools and community organizations.
- Work in partnership with Best Buddies Canada staff to support awareness and promotion of the organization on social media and through other marketing efforts.
- Represent Best Buddies programs through public speaking, community involvement, and other initiatives.
- Understanding standards on processes and be in compliance to the Best Buddies policies and procedures (i.e. incident reporting, etc.).
- Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive Best Buddies information.
- Maintain data integrity and tracking in all systems.
- Abide by all professional standards for staff when working with volunteers and program participants, as detailed in the Best Buddies Staff Policy Handbook, including the use of social media, and use of Best Buddies email accounts.

Key Competencies and Skills
- Excellent oral, written and presentation skills.
- Strong writing abilities and keen sense of detail. Impeccable spelling, grammar and punctuation skills.
- Ability to clearly articulate the mission of Best Buddies Canada – both spoken and written.
- Ability to write persuasively and strong story-telling that strengthens the organization’s brand and profile.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, as well as creativity and resourcefulness.
- Ability to set clear priorities, design and complete complex projects, and manage time well without close day-to-day supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to provide superior client service and apply sound judgment when dealing with staff advisors and volunteers.
- Willingness and capacity to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.
Qualifications
- Candidate must reside in British Columbia
- University or College degree or diploma in community social services or administration.
- Must be adaptable and able to quickly and effectively develop and balance multiple relationships
- Experience working with donors and/or volunteers.
- Previous experience with Best Buddies an asset.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Must have a valid G license and access to an automobile with applicable insurance or other reliable transportation.
- Must be willing and able to travel frequently, use personal cell phone, and work evenings and weekends as necessary to accomplish job responsibilities.
- The successful candidate will be required to complete and pass a criminal record and/or vulnerable sector check

Employment Terms: Full-time, June 3rd – July 29th, 2024 with potential to extend

Hourly Rate: $16.55/hr.
Best Buddies Canada is dedicated to enhancing communities through one-to-one friendships between individuals with and without an intellectual and developmental disability. Best Buddies Canada establishes
chapters at elementary and high schools, colleges, and universities across the country. Within each chapter, students are matched with individuals who have similar interests. Reporting to the Executive Director, the ideal Office Administrator is an energetic, dedicated individual looking for a meaningful summer career. The position is based out of Toronto and the primary areas of responsibility are: office support, event logistics, and creating marketing and social media assets.
Duties and Responsibilities Include:
• Communicate with teachers, school administrators, participants with intellectual and developmental
disabilities who call or email the office.
• Respond to inquiries that come through the general email account.
• Update the database with chapter and participant information.
• Provide administration support with fundraising events.
• Create engaging social media content including blogs, videos, etc.
• Handle outgoing/incoming mail, deliveries, and scan documents.
• Use Canva to create marketing materials.
Key Competencies and Skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills with attention to detail.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and multiple projects simultaneously.
• Proficiency in Canva and Microsoft Office.
• Proficiency in Salesforce would be an asset.
• Able to work independently with minimal supervision and collaborate effectively in a team
environment.
• Strong interpersonal skills, as well as creativity and resourcefulness.
